The Feria de Abril is known worldwide for its representative and unique stands, the "portada" or the women's flamenco dresses. But there is much more history behind this great week of festivities, a clear example is the night of the pescaíto.
This night marks the beginning of the Feria de Abril, each stand gathers for dinner and, as the name suggests, fried fish is the star of the night. When the clock strikes 00:00, the lighting of the Fair begins, and, therefore, all the festivities.
It has been celebrated since 1846, as the April Fair used to start on a Monday, and not on a Saturday as in recent years. At that time there were no refrigeration systems and methods of preserving food as there are today, and on Mondays there is usually no fresh fish. Therefore, the fish was battered and fried, as this way it was preserved much better.

How to dress the night of the pescaíto?
An important aspect of the night of the pescaíto is that the women are not dressed as flamencas, as the fair has not yet begun. Even so, the tradition is to dress up for this night, men usually wear a jacket and tie and women with guestlooks .
Defend your flamenco soul
It's true that we can't wear our flamenco dress yet, but we can't turn off our flamenco souleither. At Flamentex we believe that there is no better way to keep it alive on the night of the pescaíto than wearing the most flamenco print in the world: the polka dot. Here is a clear example from Mónica Méndez and Johanna Calderón.

Opting for a total look on vitamin colours can be a great success, as in the case of Anna Ferrer., wearing a lime green jumpsuit with ruffles in the shape of a cross.

Sequin fabrics
A daring, but very unique alternative are dresses and combinations with sequined fabrics. The influencer from Andalusia Rocío Osorno opted for this option on last year's pescaíto night, with a long dress with a floral print and sequins.
