Colour as a key decision: how to choose according to the drape and design of the

Categories : Default

When choosing a dress, colour is often one of the most difficult decisions. Not because there is a lack of options, but because the same shade can convey very different feelings depending on the fabric and its drape. Therefore, understanding how colour behaves in motion helps you make more confident decisions that are consistent with the final design.

NEW FABRICS: PULPI

In light, flowing georgette fabrics, the colour never appears completely flat. This is the case with Pulpi, one of the new arrivals in store, available in khaki with blue polka dots, beige with brown polka dots and brown with beige polka dots. Although they are in similar ranges, each combination creates a different feel: khaki is more relaxed, beige adds brightness and brown gains depth. The soft drape of the fabric makes these shades look balanced and easy to wear, especially in dresses with movement.

NEW: LAROYA Y AYLACAR

When it comes to light colours, the elasticity and fit of the fabric play an important role. Laroya, a slightly tighter and more elastic georgette in cream with red polka dots, is a good example of how a light colour can gain definition without losing softness. The contrast of the polka dots adds visual rhythm, while the elasticity makes the colour better suited to the body and the design of the dress.

Something similar happens with Aylacar, in salmon with green polka dots. Here, colour takes centre stage thanks to the lightness of the georgette and the combination of shades. The salmon appears warmer and more flattering in a fabric with good drape, while the polka dots add contrast without making the outfit look stiff. This option shows how a colour can change completely depending on the movement of the garment.

JUVILES Y SANTILLA

The size of the print also influences how we see colour. In fabrics such as Juviles, with large 7.50 cm polka dots, the background colour takes on greater visual strength. Black with beige polka dots and red with black polka dots are not perceived in the same way, even though they share the same structure. The large polka dots create impact and allow the colour to play a leading role, ideal for simple designs where the fabric speaks for itself.

In between, we find Santilla, a georgette with 4.50 cm black dots on a beige background. Here, the balance between the size of the print and the drape of the fabric allows the colour to be perceived as elegant and timeless, without being excessive. It is a good example of how the same dark background can be softened depending on the print and the movement of the dress.

UBRIQUE

Finally, when georgette incorporates elasticity and plays with different polka dot sizes, the colour becomes more dynamic. Ubrique, in black with white polka dots, combines a slightly larger fit with a varied print, making the contrast more graphic and contemporary. The movement of the fabric causes the colour to change depending on the light and the shape of the design.

Choosing the right colour is not just about picking the one we like best at first glance. It's about understanding how it behaves on each fabric, how it drapes, how it moves and how it interacts with the design of the dress. That's why seeing the fabrics in person, comparing them and observing their differences is key to making the final decision with confidence.

When chosen well, colour is not just seen. It is felt.
