Before beginning the analysis, we must consider two important aspects:

  • Buy quality fabrics, available at Flamentex.
  • Follow the washing instructions indicated on the label. If you have any questions, consult our fabric experts.

Care for making a flamenco dress

Before beginning to make the dress, Flamentex recommends washing the fabrics that are going to be used - both the dress and the accessories. You can use small samples of fabric to avoid wasting fabric.

Likewise, it is also recommended to use neutral soaps and color-catching wipes.

How to wash a flamenco dress

The best way to care for our flamenco dress is to follow the washing instructions on the label provided by Flamentex or, where appropriate, the designer. However, here are some basic aspects:

  • It is important not to wait too long between use and washing, this way it will be easier to leave it as new.
  • If we do not have a label with washing instructions or we are in doubt, it is best to wash by hand and in cold water.
  • If you prefer to machine wash, turn the suit inside out and use a short, cold and delicate program, with neutral liquid detergent, vinegar and coarse salt. It is also advisable to incorporate a color-catching wipe.
  • In the washing machine, we can replace the fabric softener with sugar, to help us starch the suit. More information at tintorería Oso Polar.
  • Do not use bleach, fabric softeners or harsh cleaning products.
  • If your costume has petticoats, wash separately.
  • If your dress has rhinestones, sequins or any similar decoration, it is recommended to wash by hand so as not to damage the ornamentation or the fabric itself.
  • When ironing the gypsy costume, do it inside out and at a medium/low temperature, depending on the fabric. We should iron ruffle by ruffle to avoid rubbing.
  • For the shawls, it is important to wash by hand without wetting the fringes and to hang them spread out.
  • It is not recommended to leave your garment to soak, since still water causes the colors to dilute.
  • When drying, do not use a dryer or leave it in the sun. Hang it flat and in the shade without wringing it out.

When washing, we should also check if the dress needs any sewing touch-ups.

How to store a flamenco dress

  • It is recommended to store it in an individual bag, with space so that it is not crushed or folded too much.
  • If it is very low-cut, you can hold it with some shoulder pins, so that it does not slip off the hanger.
  • As for the fringes, it is advisable to unstitch them and store them separately, to avoid them getting knotted and damaged. Likewise, we can store it together with our shawl: separately, well folded and in boxes.
